AZERBAIJAN IS FAMOUS FOR ITS WELFARE, AND HOSPITALITY AND, OF COURSE, DELICIOUS FOOD. BUT IT TURNS OUT INCREDIBLY GOOD FOR CAR TRAVEL AND LANDSCAPES YOU WON’T FIND ANYWHERE.
Azerbaijan is open for history lovers, Caucasian cuisine and breathtaking nature are great opportunities. The old city of Baku with the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Shamakhi, an ancient craft center in Lagich, Sheki, finally, Ganja, which was becoming a part of the Russian Empire. For the journey, we chose the first ŠKODA KODIAQ SUV. Its spacious salon, large trunk, wide technological functionality are optimal components for a long and comfortable journey in car.
The ŠKODA KODIAQ has three engines and run by fuel, which is necessary for long journeys. Above all the functionality of the car provides the driver the confidence to drive in the city and on the track, thanks to the soft suspension, lightweight body, auxiliary fuel systems. Front Distance Control System assist activates like the emergency braking function in the city.

The KODIAQ model is also equipped with Cruise control and ERA-GLONASS service. We started our journey from the Old City of Baku – Icherisheher. It is spread over 22 hectares in the very center of the city and includes many architectural monuments.
Exploring the Ancient Capital of Azerbaijan
Among them is the Palace of the Shirvanshahs with its own mosque and baths, towers, squares, churches, caravanserais. Entrance to the territory is free, round the clock. In Baku, we recommend visiting the Sirvansah Musey restaurant. Here you can taste national dishes in real Azerbaijan sky. Sirvansah Musey not only respects tradition, but also follow the present trend. The restaurant has a special menu for vegetarians, vegans, halal and gluten-free. Besides, the restaurant there is a museum of crafts and antiques items where you can see rare exhibits. The Baku-Shemakha highway was reconstructed, and we went to explore the ancient capital of Azerbaijan. There are many resorts, as the area abounds mountain springs. The pride of the city is the astrophysical observatory.
It is also a major carpet weaving center where you can purchase traditional carpets. The Gulustan fortress, the Diri Baba mosque-mausoleum and the unique Juma mosque of three large halls are some of historical monuments worth visiting. After that go to the ancient handicraft center in Lahij, walk through its narrow streets and buy traditional local handicraft products: copper products, fur hats , kyurk – a sheepskin coat. On the way from Shamakhi to Lahij, it is worth stopping by the Melhem restaurant. It is located on a hill, and around beautiful landscapes. Above all the restaurant serves traditional recipes in cozy installation and homely environment , with an outdoor terrace. it’s ideal place to take a break for lunch and enjoy the views in daylight. Then we went to Sheki – the capital of the Sheki Khan- estates in the foothills of the South Caucasus.
ŠKODA KODIAQ’s Comfortable Experience
The trip was long, but with the ŠKODA KODIAQ , it passed unnoticed. The century feels comfortable with the company up to seven people, thanks to the roomy interior, adjustable back sofa and optional third row. Attractions of Sheki
The main attractions of Sheki – Sheki Palace khans, decorated with shabaka – multi-colored Azerbaijani stained-glass windows, and one of the largest caravanserai of the South Caucasus. Sheki baklava is the gastronomic pride of the city. Our last stop is Ganja. Here you can see the Imamzadeh Mausoleum and Nizami. But it’s better to go to Lake Goygol and admire its blue surface among the mountain peaks.
Moreover, you can end the day with an evening walk in Ganja and dinner at the Zirzemi restaurant. It is stylized for the Soviet era, and each room is like a museum. Somewhere there are photographs of frames from Soviet cinema, somewhere posters, music records and bookshelves. The menu includes homemade traditional Azeri dishes. barbadian cuisine, but also such Soviet “chips” as Kiev cutlet or vinaigrette. We were pleased with the journey in the ŠKODA KODIAQ. An aesthetically pleasing vehicle with combination of sporty lines and strength, organically fits into mountain landscapes, and the function rationally acts as the best companion on long journeys and in a large company.
